SPE-PTI BAGS AWARD


Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has put PTI on the world map by winning Gold designation award. Idris Musbahu reports.

Society of Petroleum Engineers, PTI Chapter emerged as a Winner in the Gold Designation Category in the last Chapter Report contest to the International office of Society of Petroleum Engineers, Richardson USA which held in April 2017.

The  award is in recognition of the chapter exceptional programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development and innovation.

The designation is for student chapters that have accomplished an admirable level of activity. SPE has three hundred and sixty-eight (368) student chapters across all the continents of the world, where 33 chapters are from Nigeria, but  only 37 of these chapters emerged winners in this category including PTI. This is the first time SPE-PTI won this coveted award and gain an international recognition of this magnitude since 1979, when SPE was established in Petroleum Training Institute.
By this award, Petroleum Training Institute has secured an equal recognition amongst the comity of universities where SPE activities are promoted on the global stage, a preferential recognition for SPE-PTI student chapter and Petroleum Training Institute have also been listed on SPEs international website as a Gold Standard Category Award Winner for 2017.

In the letter written to the management of Petroleum Training Institute through the office of public affairs officer Mr.Brown, the President of SPE-PTI student Chapter, Moses Ilemona Ihiabe appreciate the effort of his members for the part they played in bringing the award home; to the management of Petroleum Training Institute and Prof. Sunny Iyuke in particular for personally attending their Engineering Week and for his redeeming interventions. And also to PTI community for accommodating them.

The president also extended his appreciation to  SPE Warri Section 104 for their supervisory role. The Director of Engineering Dr. R.M. Umoh, their faculty sponsor (Mr. Yohanna Dauda, HOD Petroleum Engineering & Geosciences Department) and every other SPE senior members and Directors (Dr. K. Idehen, Dr. M. Adegbite, Engr. E. Ogunyemi) in the institute for their interventions at one time or the other in helping the association pull this great feat. He also appreciates their supervising lecturer- Engr. Seun Adetona, Section 104 technology transfer chairman- Mr. Frank Egede and all the lecturers in the department of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences, PTI.

"When I got the mail of the award, I was so excited because I came into the Institute with mentality of world class, and I am not disappointed that we are rolling out world class award." The Principal /CEO of Petroleum Training Institute, Professor Sunny Iyuke stated during a meeting with the winning Team where the award was presented to the Institute. The Prof. also acknowledged the SPE out going and in-coming executives for coming together, he described it as continuity, mentoring and level of maturity.

The Principal who thanked the students for the achievement introduced  the students to a site WHY ENGINEERING where in twenty four hours somebody will be assigned to talk to you and you can communicate with everybody in the world.
The Prof. Who also acknowledged the Institute press team The Actualizers' Team (TAT),  encourages the press team to work hand in hand with SPE to move PTI to a greater height.

In the other hand, SPE PTI also Won the Best Student Chapter in Nigeria after a competition amongst 33 students' chapters at the just concluded SPE 2017 Annual General meeting (NAICE 2017).

The height of the event was the Platform createdfor a collaboration between PTI and SPE in making research and Training.

STUDENTS ELECT NEW LEADERS

The students of Petroleum Training Institute(PTI)  Effurun, Delta State, had went to poll to elect their leaders for 2017/2018  academics session.                                     Njienue Daniel Chuks reports.

The students of Petroleum Training Institute Effurun on July 15, 2017 went to poll to decide their leaders through a process known as free and fair Election, after the students affair  inaugurated the independent students electoral commission (ISEC) to conduct the student union government(SUG) election.

Prior to the polls, the aspirants moved round the hostels and departments in the institute to canvass for votes. However, most of the aspirants rendered free haircuts, tutorials, fumigation of the hostel rooms, clearing of drainage, sweeping of corridors, plumbing repairs in the hostel, some Prepared goat pepper soup while others cook beans for the students.

During the week of election, The Actualisers Team(TAT), a campus press Club, organised what was tagged TAT DEBATE for all the aspirants. The debate was described as an elightment to Nigerian students on the important and duty of each offices in the union. According to the organizer,  the essence of the debate was to create a platform for each candidate to express their level of competency in confronting issues that has to do with the welfare of the Nigerian students in the Institute, and to know if they are legible to hold the offices they are aspiring for.

The high point of the Debate that was graced by PTI Alumni Secretary General, Mr. Yahaya Moses, NAPS Senate President, former SUG Presidents and executives, present SUG President and executives, Tribal heads, Departmental Presidents and other stakeholders in the Institute was the presentation done by a guest speaker Franklin Ikoko, the founder of DAWREM who spoke on the quest for leadership. The guest speaker cleared the air on the need to vote wisely.

The curtain of the election that was kick started by 9.30am at the sport arena of the institute was drawn by 1pm. Members of the National Association of Nigerian(NANS) and National Association Of Polytechnics Students(NAPS) led by the NAPS Senate President, Comrade Friday Jeremiah were in attendance to ascertain transparency of the process.

When the voting ended, the independent student electoral commission(ISEC) chairman Mr Alade Adeyemi Femi declared Mughele Kenneth From HND1, mechanical engineering student, president-elect. Others elected were vice president Okenwa Emeka, secretary general Omosebi Adedoyin, assisstant secretary general Debbi Meni, financial secretary Ifeanyi Chibuike Emmanuel, treasurer Eze Princess Adaeze, welfare director Maryjane Akpomudhere, social director Agboaghis Osas Destiny, sport director Abilogu Teddy, public relation officer Munemu.G.O.Bright.
