Nigeria Customs abolishes HND, BSC dichotomy, promotes HND holders

The Nigeria Customs Service has removed the dichotomy between Higher National Diploma and Bachelor’s degree which hitherto was skewed against the personnel holding the former qualification.

The Comptroller-General of the service, Hameed Ali, made the announcement on Monday through a statement signed by the NCS spokesperson, Joseph Attah.

Abolishing the HND-BSc dichotomy in the ranking of personnel in Nigeria’s public service has been a subject of constant demand, particularly from Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics.

But it emerged on Monday that the federal government has isolated some organisations for reform.

“As part of the ongoing reforms in line with circular Ref: HCSF/EPO/EIR/CND/100/ST/98 of 8th September 2016 from the Head of Service of the Federation and the approval of Government since April 1992 for Nigeria Customs Service to align with the Nigeria Police Force rank structure, the CGC approved the removal of dichotomy against holders of Higher National Diploma from Bachelors Degree in the Service,” said the statement.

Mr. Ali, the statement further said, directed immediate alignment of rank structure of the service with that of the police.

Consequently, officers in the Inspectorate cadre on Salary Grade level 08 and above are to align with the appropriate rank in the Superintendent Cadre.

Also, during the decoration of some newly promoted senior officers, the News Agency of Nigeria quotes Mr. Ali as saying HND holders on salary Grade Level GL 07 in the service are automatically moved to GL0 8 while a supplementary budget will be made for their salary arrears.

“This is expected to boost the morale of officers and eliminate confusion in the seniority of officers,” Ali said at the ceremony.

The statement by Mr. Attah also conveyed the promotions of 3,487 senior officers to various higher ranks, following presidential approval.

LIBERTY FOR THE LESS PRIVILEGED

A foundation is a legal category of nonprofit organization that will typically either donate funds and support to other organizations, or provide the source of funding for its own charitable purposes. The majority of foundations are set up to exist in perpetuity.

This means that control over the foundation and its assets can be passed to countless generations, perpetuating your values, continuing your charitable work, and burnishing your name far beyond your lifetime.

Today, Carnegie and Rockefeller are better remembered for their philanthropic legacies than for their accomplishments in the steel and oil industries. And because gifts are made from an endowment that generates investment revenue, the total gifts made by the foundation over time can far surpass the initial funding.

It was on this note that Apiri Hallowed Foundation  was founded on the 3rd of June, 2007 by Pastor Atedoghu Apiri, a staff of Petroleum Training Institute Effurun, Delta State (PTI).

Basically, Apiri hallowed foundation is a scheme that was set up to reach out to the less privileged like the orphans, the widows, prison inmates, hospitalized people ad so on. Their main aim was to provide skills acquisition, empowerment programs and to support the less privilege financially. It is not a church and can never be evolve into a church.

There are different units/ Depts in the Apiri hallowed foundation, Hospital dept, widows unit, Prisons dept,  There is the PACT unit and the PACT club unit. The PACT unit stands for Prayer And Counselling Team unit and it serves as an avenue for believers to pray through different prayer sessions held. On the other hand, PACT club is a unit whereby different people come together to share their testimonies and their problems and also get solutions to those problems.

The NGO raises its capital through different partners and volunteers. They help the organization with the capitals which are needed to carry out their different programs. The NGO has several projects being carried out but presently there are two major projects on ground. These projects are for the community and the orphans and they are tagged “Liberty for community” (FREE WATER PROJECT)and “Liberty for orphans” respectively.

The NGO reaches out to people through different means. Through churches,  visiting orphanage homes, and through direct interaction with different people. Plans are also being made to reach out to different communities to get Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in our orphans scholarship scheme (OSS). OSS is a free education scheme for orphans from primary to University. You can  partner with us.

It is a fervent believe that in the nearest future, the Apiri hallowed foundation (AHF) would be recognized worldwide and the main reason for forming the organization would be achieved.

Volunteering: How Helping Others Helps You

Volunteering has a positive effect on your community — and it’s good for you too. Ben, a college freshman who did volunteer fund-raising work, calls it “a win-win situation." He says, "You feel good because you're helping others, and the others feel good because they're getting help.”

Reasons to Volunteer
Giving back to your community is valuable in itself, but helping others also offers many benefits. For example, it can help you learn more about yourself and even put you on a path to your future career. Learn more about the reasons to volunteer below.

Gain Valuable Life Experiences and Skills
Whether you build houses for the homeless or mail flyers for a local politician, you can experience the real world through hands-on work. And you can explore your major or career interests at the same time.

For example, as a premed freshman, Gregory spent his summer volunteering at a local health clinic. He picked a clinic in an area with a lot of Spanish speakers so he could practice his language skills while observing medical workers. He also found time to ask the doctors questions.

Meet Interesting People
Both the people you are helping and your fellow volunteers can give you new insights. No matter what groups of people you’re working with, you’ll find that they have information and ways of looking at the world that can broaden your horizons.

Get Academic Credit
Some high schools offer academic credit for volunteer work through service learning — a program that offers hands-on learning through service to the community. To find out if your school offers service learning, talk to your school counselor.

Show Colleges You’re Committed
Your volunteer work illustrates your interests and character. When you list your volunteer work on your college applications, you show admission officers the value you’ll bring to their campus community.

Make a Difference
It’s eye-opening to realize that doing even small things can have a big impact on others. Rhea, a college sophomore, still remembers a visit she made to a senior home with a choir when she was in middle school. “An elderly man in a wheelchair looked up at me after the last strains of ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and said in a gravelly voice, ‘You’ve made my day. This means so much.’” She recalls, “No one had ever thanked me in such a way for doing something so small, and a stranger no less!”
