INSTITUTE MATRICULATES 1,763 STUDENTS

Petroleum Training Institute Nigeria held a combined matriculation ceremony  for her Regular and part time students for the 2017/2018 academic session, as  part of the institute's tradition  to officially welcome new students  on campus and get them acquainted to the institute facilities.
 The matriculation program which lasted for three days (31st January - 2nd February 2018) began with a 2 days Orientation programme for the new students. On the first day of the orientation, the student affairs officer of the Institute Mr. J. J. Ajima gave an overview of the whole events and urged the new students to be at their best both in character and learning as they are saddled with the responsibility of upholding the high standards and reputation of the Institute.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. B. S. Oyetunde Head of General Studies in his speech advised the new students to shun social vices such as: Examination malpractices, cultism and Hard drugs. The Acting Registrar of the Institute Mr. O.C. Siakpere reminded the students of the need for them to take academic studies seriously and assured them of the institute’s management renewed commitment to providing a comfortable environment for learning.
The second day of the Orientation was the tour around the various facilities of the Institute Such as: The Library, Academy offices, Medical Center, Sport complex, security post etc. The students were also apprised on etiquette's relating to the use of these various facilities.

The third day was the matriculation ceremony. At the matriculation ceremony, the Principal/CE of the Institute Prof. Sunny E. Iyuke in his Address specially welcomed the new students who happened to be the first set of students to be admitted into the Petroleum Training Institute through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), about 1,763 successful candidates were admitted to pursue a career in Higher National Diploma, National Diploma and Certificate programmes for the 2017/2018 academic session. 

The Principal also advised the new students to be creative, innovative, focused, and more assiduous to justify the confidence repose in them; bearing in mind that matriculation is not just a fanfare but a serious assignment.

The Principal/CE also made known to the guest at the ceremony that PTI for 46 years has been a hub of Petroleum expertise with a reputation for providing high quality technical education and petroleum related disciplines in the nation’s oil and gas sector. The institute graduates are making waves in their various disciplines. Stating that last year, the PTI student chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) won the Gold award and emerged the first at the 2017 National Conference of SPE. He challenged the students of the Institute to do more to achieve ultimate goals of academic distinction and protect the good brand of the institute during their stay. He also informed the guest about the collaboration of the Institute with the University of Port Harcourt to run the Post HND and Masters Programme in Petroleum Engineering related disciplines. 

Finally he urged the new students to study and meditate on all the contents of the students Handbook to thoroughly acquaint themselves with the Institute's rules and regulations that will guide their stay on campus. He also drew the attention of the students to four major offences which when committed in the institute and the person is caught will result in outright expulsion which are:
(a) Examination Misconduct
(b) Stealing
(c) Physical and sexual assault, and
(d) Cultism and drug peddling and smoking on campus.
After the Principal’s address, the 1,763 new students (The largest number admitted to the institute since its establishment) took their matriculation oath and the ceremony came to an end.
After the ceremony the Student Union of the Institute Organised a Matriculation blast for the student at the Institute’s sport complex in other to make them know that despite the tight schedule on campus there is still room for social activities.
