Esharedoro: I Can Effect Change If Made President Of Nigeria For Thirty Days

Comr. Christian Esharedoro, the Former Public Relations Officer of Petroleum Training  Institute, Student Union Government who served in the 2018/2019 academic session said he will effect change if made President of the  Federal Republic of Nigeria for Thirty Days.

Esharedoro made this known in a social media platform of The Actualizers Team TAT a Campus Press Club that exists in the Petroleum Training Institute.

 It was quite clear that  Esharedos' point was neither to question the Current Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari nor to challenge Leaders that have previously served the Country at the Apex helm of Affairs.

 Esharedoro only sees himself as a vibrant Youth who is Totally in Support of "THE NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL" he only supplied answers according to the questions which arose from the social media group.

He said "Let me quickly react to this very nice question. If given 30days to rule this country what I will do differently?

If I'm given the opportunity to serve this country for 30days, Nigeria will move forward. 

How can this be Achieved?

First of all, I already know the Challenges of Fellow Nigerians. I will start by Implementing the voice of My Generation on the Agenda for me to do this successfully; Nigerians must be ready to embrace the Principles of Equality. What do I mean by the principles of Equality? 

Equality in my own context means that both the Children of the Rich and the Children of the poor will go to Public Schools and get the same Standard of Education.

Where the Children of the Poor can get Jobs without connections.

Where both the poor and the rich will get equal punishments for crimes committed.

I personally will place Consequences side by side over our actions. Nigerians must be ready to embrace the consequences of Corruption. 

When this Citizen has involved in an art of Financial Misappropriation, irrespective of Profile and Personality such a person must face the Law squarely. 

There shouldn't be any two ways about it. This in turn will make those at the helm of Affairs Accountable.

The Youths mainly remain the Bedrock of every Community. So in my capacity as the President, I will stay True to Power by ensuring that these set of Young people get quality Education, Skills, Man Power Development, which in turn will make them Innovative and Drive Competitiveness in Our Economy.

Esharedoro Further said, I will promote Inclusiveness, Diversify the Economy, so as not to put the Country's Eggs in one Basket.

Every citizen will be well Enlightened and Empowered to  deliberately demand for the Mandatory Accountability of their leaders.

I will bring in favourable policies that wil increase  creativity, productivity and boost the economy.

This will I do within my 30days in Office as Nigerian President.

"To salvage the current economic situation  there is need for the training of educated youths who can function effectively in their society in which they live in terms of self-employment and self-reliant which only entrepreneurship education can provide"....Patience Igho Onuesoke, Head of Operation Onuesoke Foundation.

A two-day free training workshop to build up the knowledge of youths in entrepreneurial and leadership skills has been organized in Effurun, Delta state.

The skills acquisition workshop, organized by Petroleum Training Institute Skill Development Academy, Effurun, in conjunction with Onuesoke Foundation, is in an effort to develop and acquire extra skill to back up youths academic qualification in Delta State.

The theme of the free training workshop titled, “Covid-19 And Changes Of Economic Realities: The Need For Economic Development”  was  held  between August 6th and 7th at the Petroleum Training Institute, Skill Development Academy(SDA) , Osubi Campus, Osubi, Delta State.

The workshop meant for Osubi, Okowokoko, Ugolo and youths from other communities  of Okpe Local Government Area   of Delta state  witnessed  large turn out participants  from the environs.

In a key note address, The Principal/ Chief Executive  Of  Petroleum Training Institute, Dr Henry Adimula  admonished participants to take advantage of the two days training to give them the needed competitive edge in a world of dwindling economic fortune  brought about by the corona virus pandemic.

He said the global socioeconomic situation poses serious threats and challenges to both government and wellbeing of the citizens, adding that the unemployment problems further call for different strategies and actions for it to be ameliorated.

“Entrepreneurship education has been embraced by almost all the developed countries and its capabilities and efficacy in springing up economies, is not in doubt. It is believed that refocusing education system will immensely contribute in developing the spirit and culture of entrepreneurship in the country.  Entrepreneurial education is essential not only to shape the mindsets of young people,  but also to provide the skills and knowledge that are central to development,” he explained.

Addressing the participants, Head of Operation,  Onuesoke Foundation, Mrs. Patience Igho Onuesoke said to salvage the current economic situation  there is need for the training of educated youths  who can function effectively in their society in which they live in terms of self-employment and self-reliant which only entrepreneurship education can provide.

Patience Onuesoke who said they are conducting the training based upon the aforementioned   premise urged the youths to take the training seriously adding that Nigeria faces a number of challenges that can only be met if she has innovative, well-educated, and entrepreneurial youths who, whatever their walks of life, have the spirit and inquisitiveness to think in new ways, and the courage to meet and adapt to the economic challenges facing them.

“At same time, given the current socio-economic and political stance of the country, a thriving economy would require a greater number of young people who are willing and able to become entrepreneurs who can launch and successfully develop their own commercial or social ventures, and who will become innovators in the wider organisations in which they work,” she disclosed.

Dr. Henry A. Adimula has been appointed as the new Acting Principal of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun Delta State, by the Governing Council of the Institute in it’s 140th meeting with effect from 4th July 2020.

Dr Adimula who took over from Prof. Sunny E. Iyuke, whose tenure expired on the 3rd of July, 2020, has served in various academic and administrative capacities in the institute. This includes Vice Principal of the Institute, Chairman, Staff Development Committee, Sports Director and Chairman of other committees.

Dr. Adimula is the pioneer Director of the Research and Development Directorate and the Director of Science of the institute. He is an award-winning academia in the oil and gas related fields, which includes the award of 20 million naira PTDF grant for bio remediation research with his team in 2012 to PTI.

Speaking with journalists the man with vast experience in the oil and gas industry both local and international that span over 29 years of service in the Petroleum Training Institute, appreciates the opportunity afforded to him by the Governing Council of the Institute to lead the Institute at this time.

“The task is huge but full of opportunities, there exist a big scope for the Institute to provide specialized and industry driven training in oil and gas technology.”

“I will be working with a crop of great talents to strategize and reposition the Institute to capture 50% and more, of the annual training budgets of the oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria.”

“The objective is in line with the Federal government’s local content policy to deepen the contribution of local businesses in the oil and gas industry. I assure you that we are ready as we have installed the necessary facilities to help us fulfill our mandate.”

“The industry is encouraged to take advantage of our e-learning solutions for their training needs.” He added.

Dr. Adimula holds a B.Sc. degree in chemistry and M.Sc. degree in chemistry from the University of Illorin, Kwara State. He also holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Benin. Dr. Adimula joined the services of the Institute in December 14, 1992, as then Lecturer II in Chemistry.

The Speaker of the Nigerian Students Parliament (NSP); Rt.Hon. Mubarak Aliyu Rimi alongside principal office holders paid a courtesy/familiarization visit to office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youths and Students Affairs in Abuja within the week.

While giving a keynote address, the speaker of the parliament Rt. Hon. Mubarak Aliyu Rimi started by commending the SSA on youths and students for not giving up despite the numerous challenges he faced while climbing his leadership ladder. Mr. Speaker used the medium to thank His Excellency, President Mohammadu Buhari for reappointing Nasir Adhama Sa'idu as SSA youths and students and went further to congratulate him on his reappointment stressing that his performance in President Muhammadu Buhari's first term must have earned him a second chance in the same administration.

NSP leadership also used the medium to seek for collaboration with the office of the SSA on youths and students to the president to prioritize the welfare of Students and partner to ease the job of the office by giving periodic report of student situations across the country.

In acceptance, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youths and Students Affairs Nasir Adhama Sa'idu Congratulated the new leadership of the Nigerian Students Parliament and assured them of his maximum support and readiness to collaborate with the student legislative structure to foster Students welfare.

Nasir however tasked the parliamentarians to be good ambassadors of the country as well as represent true definition of patriotism, stressing that it is only through this means that Nigeria could be a better place for all of us and the generation yet unborn.

Through the students union Government legislative Arm, the Institute Management attention has been drawn to the ongoing Test  and Lectures in some Departments of the institute.

As the norm implies, a Lecture and Test free week is mandatory for Students to prepare adequately for the upcoming Examination.

With regard from the letter sent by the SUG Legislative arm signed by RT. Hon Ngene Daniel, Speaker of Students Representative council and Hon Okoi Omini the Clerk of SRC calling for an Appeal to Pity. The Letter which was address to the Institute Registrar saw a favourable response.

on this note, the first semester examination for 2019/2020 academic session has been postponed from the 9th of march 2020 to the 16th of march, 2020, therefore Monday 9th March to Friday 13th march will be a Lecture and Test free week.

From the  memo which was signed by the institute students Affairs officer, Mr Elvis Irefo and address to the Student Union Head, reads; "I am directed to inform you that management has graciously grant an anticipatory approval for all students in HND2, HND1, ND2 and ND1 to commence their first semester examination for 2019/2020 academic session from 16th march to Friday 13th April 2020.

However, management further stretched in the memo " please note that management would not entertain any further excuses from the students union government in the above request" perhaps this might be due to the disturbances it will cause to the institute academic calendar and the overall planning process by the institute management.

Shop owners at the business environment (popularly called computer village) of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun hike prices in photocopy and cyber work. This development has caused distress among students and other occupants in the campus. For years, the price of duplicating a page with as been #5 while for dual side in a single page was #6.Recently,it was changed from #5 to #7 for a singe page and #10 for dual pages.

        Surprisingly, for students as to begin 2019/2020 academic session with an increase in price. One thing which has been a joy to the students is the low cost of acquiring and accessing internet materials. Students had hope for reduction of price and not otherwise because it is a student environment.

            An HND2 student whose identity was withheld told CAMPUSLIFE that, one the reasons she chose Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun as institute for study is because price of commodities are subsidies to the level students can afford and operators would not run at lost she said.

One of the operators told CAMPUSLIFE that the reason for the sudden increase in price was has a result of low profit and on certain occasions; no profit. Quoting her words “it appears to us that we are exchanging money for money “. She further explains that, it was collective decision among shop owners and whosoever refuse to adhere to the new law will face punishment; which will be a closure of such store and many other penalties.

       When CAMPUSLIFE interviewed the welfare director of student union government Comr. Callistus on the issue on ground, he showed disapproval on the action of the vendors in the various business centers. He promised to meet with the student union government executives in reducing the prices by negotiating with the vendors. He further promised that the executives of the S.U.G will speak to the school management to consider ways in which both students and vendors can have a good business relation if negotiation with the vendors fails.

     
Increase in the price of goods and services should not be the resolved decision of business owners in civilized environment like ours.

Price hit should be as a result of inflation or scarcity of raw materials for the production of goods and rendering of service. No country has ever become rich from the action of price hit but instead, price hit reduces the consuming power of individuals which has a negative effect on the economy.
 On this note better solutions shells be tender in making more profit and not on price hike.

DR. Henry Adebowala Adimula, the Vice Principal of the petroleum training  institite representing the Principal/CE Sunny Iyuke Matriculates 1,792  intakes for 2019/2020 academic session.

The event took place at the Institute Conference center; among those present are The Registrar/Secretary to counci Mr Clement Siapkere JP, Directors, Head of Departments, Academic Board members, and the matriculating students, Parents/ Guardians, Friends and well wishers.

The Petroleum Training Institute was established by Act No.37 and subsequently amended by Act No.52 of 1975, and PTI CAP P16 2004. The Act mandates the Institute to Provides courses of Instruction, training and Research in Technology and development of Technologist and Technicians normally required for oil production and allied disciplines.

For 2019/2020 matriculation ceremony,  it comprises of Both students in regular program and Industrial continues Education(ICE). According to Adimula about 3,602 applied for admission to pursue a career in Higher National Diploma, National Diploma and Certificate Programmes for 2019/2020 academic session out of which 1792 candidates were qualified for admission according to JAMB and PTI requirements.

Speaking at the matriculation, Adimula, the Research Don, a graduate of university of Ilorin, specially welcomes all the admitted students to campus,  he said" matriculation takes a special milestone as new faces are injected into the academic sphere of the institute. It provides Opportunity for fresh students who have gained admission into the institute as bona fide students of Petroleum Training Institute, the matriculation also marks the close of admission into the institute for 2019/2020 academic session"

  

Stretching further,  he advice the students to shun Social Vices and strictly adhere to the institute rules and regulations as were handed over to them during the orientation lectures, he advice the new students to shun Examination misconduct, stealing, Physical and Sexual assault, Cultsm, Drug peddling and taking of Indian Hemp on Campus, according to Adimula, in the event of any offense committed in the institute and the person is caught , it will attract concomitant sanction, and when it becomes necessary, the Institute will not hesitate to expel the student.

the intakes on the code of conduct in PTI, from the orientation, lectures and  seminars were delivered which will enable the smooth coexistence of students, staff and management of the Institute while on Campus.

Taking a step futher, Campus life meets the Speaker of Students Union Government, RT Hon. Ngene Chukwuemezia Daniel, he welcome all admitted students to Campus, he advise the students to remain focus, having it in mind that, there where individually admitted into the institute and and at end  their stay will be summarized by their individual results.

A National Diploma one (ND1) student of Computer science and informatioln Technology Mr.  Great Akporokiamu shared his experience with Campus Life,  he said "I am happy been admitted and now am been confirmed a student of the institute, my only issues is on the fact that a new batch of admission was releases not upto a week and next week is Test week, it becomes difficult for a student like me who was recently admitted to cope with the process as it might affect me academically.

Again, a Higher National Diploma one (HND1) student of Industrial safety Technology, Uyameh Victory, narrated his experience with Campus Life, he applauded the institute in terms of practicals and as well how it has built him to be a stable student.

 He further state that, the reason for him to choose PTI was because of the level of discipline and education quality, he made references of other institutions having almost 200 students in class, but in PTI; at most is 60 students in a class he added.

Finally, the students Union Government Organized a matriculation Aftermath party for the New students in the Institute Buttery. Campus life welcome all matriculating Students to the high Institution  of learning.

What are Cancers? Types.  Who is at Risk?
Cancers are abnormal growth of body cells, to an extent that it becomes uncontrollable. It is one of the worst sicknesses there could be. Cancer has a way of spreading and inflicting pain – when the cell outgrows others, it presses on other neighboring cells, causing them stress and pain. It invades them and contaminates them. One shocking fact is that there is no facility in Nigeria that can handle this condition.
Every part of the body can suffer from cancer – yes, every single part of your body. So there are various kinds of cancers; cancer of the brain (brain tumors), buccal cancer (of the mouth), skin cancers, breast cancers, liver cancers, colon cancer, cervical cancer, prostate cancers… the list is endless.
According to the degree of danger they pose, there are two types of cancers:
*MALIGN CANCERS which are less dangerous
* MALIGNANT CANCERS which are very dangerous
Every living being (fetus included) is faced with a risk of having at least one form of cancer. It is not a gender specific thing. Certain factors, however can make a  person predisposed to it.
Things to do to Lower your Cancer Risk Level
Eat healthy: Lots of whole grain foods, veggies and fruits
Weight Control: Don’t be too fat or too thin
Lessen your exposure to carcinogens (things that intoxicate you)
Do not smoke. Whether primary or secondary smoking.
Minimize your exposure to sunlight. Especially for albinos.
Always hydrate your body: Take sufficient water. Please do not take excess!
Risky sexual behaviors and unprotected sex should be stopped.
Early detection and treatment is key, therefore screen yourself regularly.

Inline with the Institute advocacy for Eco  friendly Environment which will enhance  a conducive learning of students;  Students of Environmental Technology last week Saturday embark on  a campaigns round the Institute to further educate students on the need for Environmental Cleanliness.

The Program which was Chaired by the NES PTI Student Chapter President Miss Jennifer Dikocha saw the lives of The  President of the Rotary Club of PTI, The  Team (TAT) PTI PRESS CLUB, Egon Sunday President who is also the Secretary of NES PTI Students Chapter and Students.

The program involves Picking all Waste littering the ground in the hostel and it's environs also a presentation by the president to all Students.

The event was carried out in all the Hostel of the Institute.

According to the president, the campaign will be a monthly event, our aim is to keep the environment safe and clean, She use Opportunity to emphasize Cleanliness as been a factor which will contribute to once academic exploits.

Going further, she applaud the Institute for a tireless works and maintainance in ensuring the well being of Students on Campus and that NES PTI students chapter will continue on the campaign.

                  PTI DECIDES 2019

The much-awaited student union election manifesto of the Petroleum Training Institute Effurun were  finally rendered by various aspirants,and the events saw  representatives  from the student affairs division,the Independent student electoral committee (ISEC) of the current and past student union government President and student representative council and other stakeholders of the Institute. The event which took place at the Institution lecture theatre,kicked off with an opening prayer followed by the national anthem which was dully followed by the speech of the  ISEC chairman comrade  Paul Ejomafuwe and the opening speech by the student affairs representative Mrs patience Ewhre who stressed on the need for unionism in the student body as well as the need for the student as electorate to exercise their right to vote in an executive that will propagate a student geology, true integrity, accountability and Prudence.
The event saw sections of manifesto and question segment were Students were given Privilege to ask  candidates questions pertaining to the offices they are vying for.The main  highlights of the event was the delivering between the aspirants for the position of the student union government president. The fan favorites to win the position Comrade Oyieyie Oghenemarho who had gathered a reasonable number of  students, failed to impress  Nigeria students and  the electorate are left wondering if their favourite aspirant is capable of representing them and to face the challenges that are surely going to show up. On the other hand the opposing aspirantes comrade Otitigbe Ogaga who lied  low throughout the campaign, raised  his head and flooded his opponents with his well-structured manifesto that contained his points of agenda which  included a committee of aligning  with management on making decisions and negotiation.He really did well to capitalised on The Weakness of his opponents and played on his docility.
Other positions captured in the event were  the vice-president, General secretary, Assistance Secretary General, Financial secretary, Treasurer,Sport director,Director of Werfare and Social Director.

STUDENT REACHED LIMIT OF ACEDEMIC GRADING.

Outcome  of the first semester's result  for 2019/2020 academic section of the petroleum training Institute changed the atmosphere of the school as the fate of  students were determined. kimuenu Andrew and Ibrahim Surnama reporting.

After the rain comes sun as nature demands, so it is in every Institute that after the examination comes results from which the  strength and labour induced  in previous semesters is determined.

The recent results posted on 30th August 2019 saw a shocken  outcome as a young vibrant petroleum engineering students( PEG)currently on her Higher National Diploma (HND1) reached the limit of the institution grading.

The Girl by name Peter Joses vwegba  completed her  National Diploma (ND) at the federal Polytechnic Auchi and  recently offered her Higher National Diploma(HND) in the Petroleum Training institute.

Peter Joses vwegba  scored "A" flats in all ten (10) courses in the previous semester and recorded 4.00 as her first GP as regular student.Though  there were other students with good grades but her's was outstanding as it was a rare grade.

She is a hard-working girl and according to report,her academics is always have first priority though  she has love for sports but she never played with her studies.

The head of department (HOD) of the Petroleum Engineering department,Dr. A.O.J Adebowale also the best HOD according to the recent SUG award,Congratulated the young lass in his office and advised her to continue with the same zeal.

Colleagues and friends never stopped talking about her success as it has become the talk of the week.Many indicated that she deserves it and also the grading system of the Institute which was  adjusted,helped her in setting this record.

According to a female student speaking to the Campus reporters on the issue, she said it is obvious that "what a man can do,a woman can do it better so one should never underestimate a female child".

Campus Journalists Celebrates Principal at 54

The Chief Executive/ Principal of Petroleum Training Institute PTI, Prof. Sunny Iyuke who turns 54, has been celebrated by a renowned PTI campus journalist popularly known as The Actualizer's Team (TAT).
The Campus Press Club celebrated the birthday of Principal in grand style with a courtesy visit which saw a beautiful portrait presented to the Prof. as a birthday gift.

The presentation which took place at the principal's office was led by the Grand Patron of the press club and Public Relations Officer of the Institute, Mr. Brown Ukanefimoni with the president of the Press Club, Comrade kimuenu Andrew. Other executives present were  Ofunne Judith, Omovigho Clinton, Umoh Michael, Isaiah Omachi, Ehibor Jeffery, Gilead Chikezie, Abu Ibrahim, Ohwofa Odafe.

They commended the principal for his tireless efforts since his appointment into office,July 24th,2016.
Speaking of the infrastructure and basic amenities in the school hostel,admin block and school  field and also the effort to ensure the Annex entrepreneurship buildings met specifically for entrapreneurship at Osubi starts  functioning, and many more.

The Prof. was applauded, and the wishes to continue in the good work were not excluded as the gift was presented to him.
The principal accepted the gift with words of appreciation and also Unleashed some of his plans to ensure Petroleum Training Institute Effurun, is a better Institute to acquire knowledge in this religion of Nigeria and Africa at large.
He spoke on his agenda of collaborating with the Calgary university in Canada(U-Calgary) to see how these two schools can be affiliated to exchange students and staffs as time goes on. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Education has approved the Institute to issue master of technology which will kick off very soon.
The  54 years old South Africa based professor, advised the young intellectuals to improve on their role of enlightening, educating, and entertaining on Campus and also the nation at large as life doesn't end here on campus.
 He also advised the young reporters to improve the campaign on cleanliness in the environment as well as conserving of energy in order to help generate more funds in developing the Institute. He advised the students never to neglect their primary objectives which is their studies.
It was indeed a real Privilege for the young reporters as they left with smiling faces after been encouraged with the warm words from the principal.

BONFIRE NIGHT

Following my letter titled: Open Letter to the Principal, dated 6th July, 2018, addressed to you
and copied to relevant quarters, which I highlighted to reasonable limits, after careful environmental and moral evaluation, the adverse effects of the bonfire night that is usually observed during the annual students’ week celebrations; this piece seeks to propose an alternative program for the bonfire night (which held anyways in the same awful, or should I say, worst manner despite assurance from the responsible authority of the students union executive since my letter preceded this year’s event).
 There should be TALENT FAIR, a programme designed for fun, entertainment and for excavation
of obscure and invaluable talents in various categories. The categories shall include: music (various genre), comedy, public speaking and dance/choreography/acrobatics. And prices should be awarded to contestants who by the pre-selected judges’ assessment excelled above their fellows in the different categories, courtesy of the students’ union government..
 The event shall be attended by one or two of the Institute’s management representative/s, so as to:
 Ensure compliance to preset programme objectives and conformity to established standards
 Help market outstanding students in the none core academic angle to the outside world with her good contacts and influence

NDII STUDENT DIES ON HIS BIRTHDAY

SAD: ACHILLE SAMSON, NDII SLT STUDENT DIES ON HIS BIRTHDAY.

A student of the  department of Science Laboratory Technology NDII of the Petroleum Training Institute Effurun, Delta State ACHILLE SAMSON gave up the ghost onThursday 23/08/18 evening, which happens to be his birthday after suffering from a little sickness.
   According to the information gathered, Samson died Thursday evening. He was reported to have died as a result of the illness which he suffered for a short period of time, Samson gave up in the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
  He was the assistance secretary general of the Arewa Students Union Petroleum Training Institute chapter, before his demise he was among  the organizer of the union cultural day which holds on Saturday, 18/8/2018.
  According to his close friend Seun Paul, who spoke to TATpress said "Samson is my close friend his death was very painful, he is a very cool guy, humble, nice, jovial and easy going person who always smiles to everyone he met, and those are the things I envy about him always."
   The class representative of the department of science laboratory technology NDII when contacted said "me and my coursemate are just returning from his home where we went to pay his parents a condolence visit, he is a gentle and easy going guy."
   TAT correspondence speaking with one of the deceased associates Hammed by name said "I receive the  information this morning that Samson is dead, I was shocked because I still have a conversation with him on Tuesday when he was going home not knowing that would be the last discussion with him. I also join my other coursemate to visit his parents." Hammed express his emotions.
  Also one of the deceased coursemate who happens to be the queen of Arewa Students Union Petroleum Training Institute chapter Hadiza said " I don't know how to describe him because he was so cool, easygoing and hate troubles."
  As at the time of filling this report the remains of Samson is still at the morgue awaiting burial.
     The Actualizers Team Petroleum Training Institute press hereby mourns with the department of Science Laboratory Technology and PTI students at large on the demised of our beloved student. May his soul rest in peace and I pray the almighty God grant His parents the fortitude to bear the loss.

EFFECT OF JAMB POLICY ON STUDENT AND REPUTATION OF THE PETROLEUM TRAINING INSTITUTE

The Petroleum Training Institute, known for its strict policies has been perceived by most Nigerians to be an Institute of learning meant for only smart and serious students. This idea had been birthed from the fact that the PTI entrance examination was to be compared to that of few tertiary institutions in Nigeria in terms of difficulty.

Mostly, those who were well prepared were offered provisional admission into the institute. While sometimes persons who were well prepared before writing the entrance examination are scarcely not admitted, it was counted a privilege to be in the institute as a student by those that were.

The last PTI entrance examination was conducted for the 2016/2017 academic session of which the number of students admitted was pretty small compared to the number of persons who wrote the examination all over Nigeria, as it had always been anticipated.

And although almost every first examination result comes with an ‘advised to withdraw’ notice for one or two students in few departments, this was part of what made the remaining students firm and serious. Once it was heard that a student was caught cheating in an examination hall, with evidence, in the institute, everyone knew the student was going home, this was a standard which kept all students in every department on their toes, resulting to total dependence on themselves and in return good grades at least.

Students from the Petroleum Training Institute could stand with colleagues from other institutions and display brain power, even they could be distinguished by certain persons and organisations outside the walls of the Institute.

All these experiences were counter balanced with one session of change, maybe mimicking the current administration in the country. What was meant to be help to the Nigerian students had become a blow both to their families and to the reputation of the institute, although the institute had collected all that money already, who is really at loss?

The number of students admitted for the 2017/2018 academic session skyrocketed due to the policy put in place which substituted the PTI entrance examination with the use of JAMB as a means into the Petroleum Training Institute. This was a good thing, of which more persons would obtain the privilege of gaining admission into the institute, but it became as though admission was offered to every single person who applied, unsurprisingly with Nigerians knowing how low the standard of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) had become.

At least from the rumours and orientations that these new students had gotten outside and within the premises of the Institute, it was expected that most of them would buckle up, especially those who gained admission to the National Diploma programme. There were so many faults and lapses which the returning students had never seen before in PTI, ranging from students smoking in public to the midnight romance which was now a norm as most students now had someone to meet up with each night, while their academics suffer.

News of the exceedingly poor performance of students in the institute after the first semester exam for the session was no shocker since almost every returning student had been like a fortune teller, revealing the amount of un-seriousness which had been displayed formerly.

What used to be ‘one or two’ withdrawals from some departments had become like an award to a lot of students who were now advised to withdraw from the institute, and this ‘advice’ hasn’t actually ever been an advice, if you know what I mean.

      Writing this does not give me joy, because I am currently a student of the Petroleum Training Institute, and I have imagined what it would feel like to be withdrawn from the institution after paying numerous amount of fees, especially in a country as ‘good’ as Nigeria.

Well, I say kudos to all students who did well in their first semester examination and those who did not do too well but are still students of the institute, there is always room for improvement.

Petroleum Training Institute, (PTI) and the Federal University of petroleum Resources (FUPRE) both in Effurun city co-hosted the 9th NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF PETROLEUM EXPLORATIONISTS (NAPE) AND NIGERIAN MINING AND GEOSCIENCES SOCIETY (NMGS) mini-conference for tertiary institutions.

"The era of transferring lecture note from one generation of lecturers to the other is over as things are evolving on a daily basis and also the days of ‘handouts and keypoints’ should pave the way for digital research as well as creative and critical reasoning." Dr E. Andrew Ejayeriese (FNAPE, FNMGS) president of the NAPE told the lecturers as he also encouraged the students to explore with their minds generating, testing and validating hypothesis, during the conference that gatherred high profile personnels from Oil and Gas sector.

The conference kicked off on Wednesday 6th of June, 2018 with all the student leaders from across the country arriving and the pre mini-conference leadership submit workshop held at Petroleum Training Institute conference centre.

On Thursday 7th of June, 2018 the leadership submit continued and all the students' chapter across the nation arrived and short courses on Petroleum system (History, definition, types and application), Seismic data acquisition and processing, Operation and wellsite geology and Clastic reservoir geology overview were taught by Dr Joe Ejedawe (FNAPE), Mr Phillip Ajaebili, Mr Ebenezer Bamigboye and Mr Jude Omuije respectively to the student.

The following day which was on the 8th of June, 2018 was the opening ceremony which was attended by the governor of Delta state His excellency Dr Ifeanyi Okowa who was represented by the commissioner of higher education Engr Jude Sinebe who welcomed the students to Delta state and encouraged them to be of best conduct throughout the conference and also told them to visit some interesting places in Delta state if time permits them. The principal/CE of Petroleum Training Institute in the person of Prof. Sunny Iyuke (Ceng, PrEng, FSAAE, MIChem, SAIChE, AMNSChe, COREN) who in his welcome address stated that the theme of the mini-conference: EMERGING ENERGY CHALLENGE: A PARADIGM SHIFT IN GEOSCIENCES EDUCATION, is timely and very significant to the sustainability of the training in the oil and gas sector as well as in mining and geosciences sector with emphasis in the development of the next generation of leaders who today constitute the middle level and future players in the industry and also the Vice-chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources in person of Prof. Akaehomen Akii Ibhadode (FAS) who in his welcome address stated that the theme for the mini-conference captured the deep narrative of our passion in bringing innovation to bear in the mission to make our university global centre of excellence. The Nigerian Mining and geosciences society (NMGS) also indicated in his presidential address that the theme of the mini-conference is very apt especially in the current dispensation of price vagaries in the oil sector and he asked a question if we have the requisite skilled personnel needed for the unearthing of these potentials for the benefit of the nation? Are our students been properly groomed to take over from the aging legends in the industry? Also the University Assistance Programme (UAP) Chairman the person of Dr Adeola Adesida (CPG) also indicated in his address that the theme of the mini-conference was carefully chosen to ignite our passion and prepare every geoscience student to handle the evolving energy needs of our country disruptive technologies/ artificial intelligence/ machine learning, virtual reality, energy transition, environmental footprint, decreasing reserves replacement ratio due to lack of recent major oil and gas discovery and dwindling exploration budget are some of our current realities.

After the welcome address the keynote speaker Prof. S.S Dada did justice to the topic EMERGING TRENDS IN MINERAL EXPLORATION IN NIGERIA. Then the exhibition was declared open by the president NIGERIAN ASSOCIATION OF PETROLEUM EXPLORATIONIST (NAPE) where PTI, FUPRE and other exhibitors displayed some of their works. Then the inter university quiz commenced immediately after the exhibition and different university was represented by their representatives and at the end of the quiz competition SHAIB DQUID representing the Federal university of Petroleum Resources emerged the winner and RIDWAN AMURE representing Obafemi Awolowo  University (OAU) came out second and DAVID CHIBUZOR representing Ebonyi state University came out third.

In the evening the student were not left out as a get together/ variety night was organized for the where MC Erickado anchored the event and artists from different universities like CYP (who dedicated a song to NAPE), ARMSON SLAM both from PTI, ILLUMINIOUS from FUPRE and a female rapper artist CRYSTAL all the way from University of Nsukka, Nigeria (UNN) thrilled the audience.

Then on Saturday 9th of June, 2018 which was the last day of the mini-conference was package with different student representing their universities participating in oral and poster presentation and at the end IDONGESIT M. AKWAOWOH and OLUGBENGA A. EHINOLA from University of Ibadan emerged the winner of the oral presentation who will be sponsored to AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PETROLEUM GEOLOGIST conference which will be held in South Africa. Then the students were taken on an excursion to PTI demonstration ground where they were shown the functional drilling rig, flow station with wellhead.

The conference ended with an award night where awards were given to all those who sponsored the mini-conference and cash prizes were given to the winners of NAPE UAP grant-in-aid for both undergraduate and post graduate student to support their research work. NAPE PTI student chapter won the award of the BEST STUDENT CHAPTER MEMBERSHIP DRIVE. The event ended with the LOC chairman person of Prof. Ebo Gabriel Imeokparia giving the closing remark wishing all those who attended the mini-conference from across the nation safe trip back to their various destinations.

How can geosciences education continue to develop in Nigeria with relevance to the emerging energy challenges? This question was answered at the 9th NAPE-NMGS mini-conference for tertiary institutions which was held at Petroleum Training Institution (PTI) and the Federal University of petroleum resources (FUPRE) Effurun, Delta state, Nigeria.

PTI Students Laud Principal for his Great Achievements

The current and graduated students of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun Delta State gathered in mass recently to celebrate the institute Principal/CEO; Prof. Sunny Iyuke and his management team for a great achievement in the institute. Gbenga Ojo reports.

A year ago, during the school fees hike in the institute, the delegation of NANS, Ex Presidents & the present Executives of SUG PTI visited the CEO/ Principal Prof. Iyuke and he gave the delegation his words that in three months from that day if transformation is not noticed, that they should shut down the Institute.

The team has been on the watch ever since, until recently when they gathered together again to appreciate the management led by Prof. Iyuke saying  that he has delivered on his word.

It will be recalled that during President Olusegun Obasanjo's regime over 18billion naira was approved for the renovation of PTI, which kept still all the activities in the institute for over 12 months in 2007.

Few months after the renovation, the institute Students' Press body, popularly known as The Actualizer's Team (TAT) came up with an article titled "PTI Upgrade or DownGrade?" The press body explained in the article that the question on the lips of all the students on campus that were sent home for one year in the name of renovation came back to meet what they tagged "below expectation" as what they met was down grade and not upgrade. According to the article everything moved from good to bad. The student were reported to be wondering what the urge amount of money was used for, because many buildings were abandoned including hostels, class rooms, admin and many buildings left untouched. PTI moved with a great speed from grace to grass in that year.

From that 2007 till date many Principals and Acting Principals have ran the affairs of the institute with little or no achievement.

 On the 19th July, 2016 the federal government appointed a renowned South African based professor of Chemical and Process Engineering, Mr Sunny Iyuke, as new principal and Chief Executive Officer of Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, Delta State. Until his appointment,  the Prof. who came with the vision to digitalizing PTI was the Head of School of Chemical & Metallurgical Engineering of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Less than two years of his stay in the Institute, The Prof has been honored with so many awards and commendations for his great innovations which includes:

Reconnection of the burnt 33KVA line which has led to regular power and water supplies in the institute; uninterrupted academic activities; commencement of National Diploma Programme in Computer science and information technology; introduction of post HND and Masters Programme in Petroleum Engineering; industrial peace on campus; confirmation of 159 staff employed in 2015; revitalization of the offshore technology centre (OTC); establishment of skill development academy centre at the osubi campus; reactivation of research and development directorate;  construction of 300 seater auditorium and road network on campus; renovation of the ultra-modern swimming pool;  renovation of male and female hostels;  opening of the long abandon female NDDC hostel; fixing of all the street lights in the school premises. Also, the additional male hostel project that has been on hold since 2007 is now on use and the road leading to the hostel is under massive construction.

Furthermore, renovations are going on in different areas of the school, like the General Studies department building and construction of the new lecture theatre.

Other achievements were mentioned by both old and current executives that spoke with Campus Life.

"Mr principal prof. Sunny Iyuke with the one year I spent with him in office, I must say he has achieved more than you can think of. His coming to the institute lead to great achievements which includes;

In his two years in the office, he has conducted 2 convocation a record that had not been in the institute before.

It was the first time in over 15 years that graduate  from the institute are mobilized for NYSC the same year they graduated due to the smooth running of the calendar

His managerial skills have seen him manage agitations from both students and staff amicably a record that has not been set by any principal without protest and strike

He brought up policy that has been inclusive of the students more than the staff in term of student’s welfare and comfort. I must say a man like Prof Sunny Iyuke deserves more than an accolade." Theophilus Ukuyoma, SUG president 2016/2017 academic session.

Comr Akamune Oke Stage, SUG President 2014/2015 session described it as a 'ROUND PEG IN A ROUND HOLE.' "The proof of great leadership and transformation agent. As a passionate Student lovely Ex President of PTI, I have being on the watch and the management led by Prof. Iyuke have done marvelously well beyond expectation." He added.

"This is the first time according to my knowledge that  P.T.I has a great leader as Principal after many years. Professor Sunny Iyuke brought P.T.I from a 'Thick hole of Darkness’ of financial mismanagement, and nepotistic appointment of directors, to the mountain top of  'Bright lights and innovations.' "Prof Sunny Iyuke has been a blessing to the PTI community since the day of his appointment as Principal/CEO of the institute. What thrills me most is the fact that Prof Iyuke did not just come to take up the appointment as just a job. He is passionate about it.  Sometimes, during weekends, you see him, simply dressed, taking a walk round the school, visits the students' mess when students are viewing a match, just observes and leaves.
